HTML Graphs: an update

The impact of the little HTML graph applet blows my mind. Here's what has happened in one week:

In the last five days of may, I had 114'579 unique visistors on aharef.info.

As I write this, 345'117 networks have been created.

According to technorati, 1'822 blogs link to aharef.info (aharef.info is not even two months old, so all the links are due to the HTML graph applet). Technically, this makes aharef Switzerland's most technorati - linked blog, but I'm not even on this list (not that I care ;-)

Massive coverage on del.icio.us, Digg and other sites, Flickr likes it a lot, Wired and Spiegel wrote about it etc.

I write all this to apologize that I haven't updated the blog recently - sorry!! I'm very busy with the paintings, but I will update the applet soon. But please, take the source code and extend / modify it in whichever way you want, I'm very curious! Also, note that I read all comments and trackbacks on this site, so please keep posting.

Very good artistic idea, but where is the source code? I did not catch the link.

Thanks
nippo

I updated the entry with the link to the code.

Hi, you're on the top100 List (here http://top100.blogug.ch/archive.php?id=2125 as #921 :) ), but technorati is sometimes really slow updating the API interface with their up-to-date data... Expect to be #1 any day from now :)

It's a great idea, both the blog network graphic and the painting project! Really cool!!!! Reagards from South Africa, Gregor

Excellent. Great job. I downloaded the applet code, thinking I might be able to play with it. I can do a lot in php, javascript, css... but I was brought to a standstill with a little applet code in front of me. Can you tell me how I can implement it on a test html page of my own as you have?

Actually, what I want to do is make it interactive -- imagine if it could zoom in and show those sections more clearly. And imagine if each node was active: if you hover over the node it pops up a little javascript window with some information about that page, maybe even a thumbnail screenshot!! And of course, if you click on the node it takes you to that site. Can you see those as possibilities, or am I dreaming?

Sehr gute Idee. Werde auch darüber bloggen ... :-)

What an absolutely fabulous picture! I am entranced with it. How remarkable!

It's very curious, but... why doesn't it work with certain url's (I mean, it keeps blank after submitting certain url requests, no matter how long you keep waiting)...

I've tried to see the source code, but I'm not very good at java applets.

Best regards

I extended this nice idea by drawing graphs of a website's structure and the validation status of its html content.
It's a small free (GPL) standalone java application which spiders a website and paints its pages within such a nice particle graph.

This is an amazing app. Getting to the end of my day at the office and I could not wait to get out but just out of habit I linked over to sixapart to see whats new and came across tge HTML tag graph application. Really cool to see the layout of ruurban.net
